Hello, my name is Liam. Alcohol is my career, food is my hobby. I like to drink, and eat and dreat. That’s where you do both at the same time. It takes a little bit of work but its worth it in the end. It’s like how really good saxophone players can breathe through their nose whilst playing through their mouth.
Ok so not really, but I do like to put drink in food quite a lot, see for example my Molten Cognac Chocolate Lava Cake. Whilst I’d like to think my knowledge is pretty good with drinks, cocktails and spirits, I am a relative novice when it comes to cooking, with only a basic knowledge on technique, and my background in drink to rely on for flavour combinations, so any lapses on proper phrases, please forgive me. It seems to be working out pretty well so far anyway!
I must admit I am a bit of an elitist when it comes to cocktails, if you come here looking for “Sweet, Vodka based, Creamy, Fruity cocktails” unfortunately you will probably be disappointed. I firmly believe that a palette for good cocktails is something that takes time and work. Take say, spicy food as an example, the first time you try something spicy, you might think “goodness, I’m never trying that again!” But if you keep at it, and keep trying different dishes that are spicy, your palette evolves and you can appreciate the more complex dishes, and you wonder how you ever didn’t like it in the first place.
It’s the same with cocktails, you might find a gin martini too strong the first time, or a negroni or last word too complex, but once you make that leap, once you start noticing the subtle nuances that these awesome creations have. Ho boy. You’ll never look back.
A good starting point is my topic on the Manhattan.
So join me, on my (slightly hazy) journey into the boozy, drinking, baking world that is my life.
Oh and everyone comes here for the photo anyway so here you go.
